A Brief History of MINI

Whether you are driving in Boise, Eagle, Garden City, Meridian, or Nampa, your MINI is sure to stand out on the road. The first MINI Cooper was released in 1959 in England by Sir Leonard Lord and Alec Issigonis of the Morris Company. Issigonis had a goal to reach: design and build a small, fuel-efficient car capable of carrying four adults that is also affordable. As demand for affordable and fuel-efficient cars skyrocketed due to rising fuel prices, Issigonis worked hard to design a car for the market demand. He made more room in the car’s cockpit by pushing the wheels all the way out to the corners and turned the engine sideways giving the car more stability in tight turns, as well as more passenger space on the inside.

Throughout the 1960s, the MINI has been a notable British style. The MINI played a huge role in creating the youthful culture of the 60s. Whatever your personality type, the MINI offered a vehicle that appealed to the masses. MINI models are known for its nimble performance and stylish design. By 1969, over 2 million MINIs had been sold all around the world. Pickup and station wagon versions of the MINI were introduced and proved to be very durable. By 1977, over 4 million MINIs had been sold.

MINI has created a dedicated fanbase for their vehicles. By 1999, over 5 million classic MINIs had been sold and the MINI was selected to be the European Car of the Century! The MINI also managed to win the North American Car of the Year Award. Today’s MINI Cooper line has expanded, including available ALL4 all-wheel drive, three models with more seating and four doors, spirited two-seaters, and topless motoring. Their latest vehicles are equipped with many standard safety features and advanced technological features. MINI does not fail to produce iconic vehicles.
